The most recent Batman film, The Dark Knight, was the subject of much dispute in the UK in 2008 after being handed a 12A certificate despite its powerful adult themes. Now it looks like the debate over cinema ratings is likely to begin all over again for Christopher Nolan’s follow-up, The Dark Knight Rises after the final film in the British director’s Batman trilogy was given a PG-13 rating in the US.

The rating from the Motion Picture Association of America will almost certainly translate into another 12A in the UK. The US censors say Nolan’s film features “intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language”. A PG-13 will allow anyone over the age of 12 into the film in the US, increasing its chances of box-office glory. The Dark Knight is the 11th highest grossing film of all time worldwide, with more than $1bn in receipts, and its sequel is expected to produce similar results.

The Dark Knight Rises opens in the UK on 20 July 2012. It once again stars Christian Bale as the caped crusader, with Anne Hathaway debuting as Selina Kyle, a character who becomes Catwoman in the comics. Gary Oldman and Michael Caine reprise their roles as Commissioner Gordon and Alfred, while another Brit, Tom Hardy, plays the central villain Bane. (Source)

For reasons not entirely specified, Joe has dropped out of Quentin Tarantino’s, Django Unchained. Speaking with MTV, Joe explained his decision. Take a look below:

“No, I’m not going to get to do that,” Gordon-Levitt said. “I’d love to, but it just doesn’t work. I’ve been in touch with Quentin about it, and it was so cool to trust me to do this little part in his movie. I would have loved, loved to have done it. He’s one of my very favorite filmmakers, and he was really supportive of me directing and that meant the world to me.”

Julianne Moore will mentor Joseph Gordon-Levitt in his untitled directorial debut, TheWrap has confirmed. Gordon-Levitt shared his excitement Wednesday on Twitter about snagging the four-time Oscar nominee for his turn behind the camera. Joe tweeted the following:

@hitrecordjoe I’m incredibly happy to have the brilliant Julianne Moore on board! #pinchme.

Moore joins Scarlett Johansson in the film. In addition to handling directing chores, Gordon-Levitt will star a swinging Don Juan type who tries to mend his ways.

Shooting is scheduled to start in April. (Source)

Liam Neeson will officiall return as Ra’s al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises. The news was confirmed in production notes for Wrath of the Titans, which he also stars in. The Ra’s al Ghul character is the leader of the League of Shadows and the man who trained Batman in the first, Christopher Nolan, Batman movie Batman Begins.

Ra’s was also aboard a train that derailed and exploded at the end of the film, seemingly killing him. However, Ra’s is an immortal, so there are a number of possibilities in which he can return, and it looks like we’ll just have to wait until it premieres on July 20th,2012 to find out. (Source)

As The Dark Knight gets ready to rise again, debate and speculation show no sign of letting up. Though most of the viewing audience will count their exposure to Tom Hardy’s Bane in this summer’s The Dark Knight Rises as their first, some may remember his initial introduction in 1993′s “Batman: Vengeance of Bane” comic book, created by the collaboration of vaunted Bat-scribes Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench and the artist of no relation to the co-creator, Graham Nolan.

Intended as the antithesis to Gotham’s shadow-lurking crimefighter, Bane went on to infamy as the villain who broke the Bat. But what were the creators’ intentions at the drawing board and what does the new iteration draw a better likeness to what was originally offered on the page? Graham says:

“I like what I have seen so far. I understand the need to change certain things for a film adaptation. The Batman costume of film is not the one in the comics either. It’s more important to get the character right.”

And on whether Bane’s dialogue has been muffled by his mask, at least in the scenes in the trailer, Graham says: “Yes, it’s a bit difficult [to understand him], but I do not intend to judge the film on a video released before the movie. There is still plenty of time to improve sound and clarity if the director decides it is necessary.”

Considering the fashionable use of comics in movies today, Graham added that: “When done properly like Captain America and The Dark Knight, I like them. When they are made like Spider-Man 3, I hate them.”

The Dark Knight Rises hits theatres in both the US and UK on July 20 and will feature the returning cast of Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman as well as newcomers Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and of course Bane himself, Tom Hardy. (Source)
